International Translation Day is an international day recognising translation professionals. It is on 30 September, which is the day of the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators.
International Translation Day will be celebrated to appreciate the vital role of language professionals who bridge the communication gap within our dynamic and culturally diverse communities.
The International Federation of Translators (FIT) allocate a yearly theme for each year’s celebration, this year’s being; Translation: promoting cultural heritage in changing times. This theme highlights the role of translation in promoting an understanding of the intangible cultural heritage of others, in order to encourage mutual respect in our changing world.
September 30th marked International Translation Day, an annual celebration that acts as an opportunity to pay tribute to the life and work of translators and interpreters who aspire to make the world a slightly smaller place by breaking down language barriers.
